Questions for your Contractor:

  1. What experience do you have with my kind of project?
It’s important that your contractor has right skill set, so ask how many projects of a similar type to yours they’ve done. You’re investing your hard-earned cash so make sure your builder has the required know-how and is not using your project as their learning experience.
  2. Are you certified?
It’s essential to do your due diligence and make sure you’re dealing with a reliable business. Epoxy manufacturers will not sell their products to just anybody, you must be a certified installer to even purchase high end products from most epoxy manufacturers like Tnemec, FlorGuard, General Polymers, National Polymers, PolySpec and more.
  3. Can I see some finished projects?
While credentials are important, the proof is the pudding! Ask the contractor to show you examples of completed projects, ideally similar to the one you’re planning.
  4. Do you have references and reviews?
Check their social media for unbiased reviews of their past customers. (Facebook, Google Business, Yelp and others)
  5. Is your price a quote or estimate?
We’ve heard of customers being given a quote to begin and then having the contractor try to come back for a lot more. Be sure to discuss the potential for added charges before the project.
  6. Do you have insurance coverage?
In the rare event that things go wrong, it’s good to prepared. Ask your contractor if they are properly insured. They are legally obliged to have liability insurance – you can ask to see certificates.
  7. Do you offer a guarantee of your work?
    A reputable company should offer a guarantee/warranty.
  8. What are your payment terms?
A reputable contractor will never ask for full payment up front. It is common for a contractor to require earnest money of no more than 50% up front for materials and balance due upon completion.
  9. How will we communicate?
Trust and communication are big parts of the process, clear and regular communication is essential. Ask your contractor how often they will update you on progress, how best to contact them with queries, and how soon you can expect a response.
  10. When can you start?
Make sure your prospective contractor is giving you a timescale that is actually possible. Confirm that once they start, they will work on your project daily till its final completion. Ask for a target completion date and don’t be afraid to implement a penalty if they don’t finish on time (excluding delays by you or acts of nature).
  11. What are you like to work with?
You need to be comfortable with having people in your home environment. Trust your gut instinct. If the contractor doesnt feel like someone you can get along with, they may not be the right choice for you.
